Tool and Die Maker

Seeking a Tool and Die Maker to establish our toolroom function and own the dies, tooling, and fixtures behind our stamping presses, tube benders, and end forming equipment. You will repair, rebuild, and modify production tooling; run die changes and machine setups; handle equipment maintenance; and step in on production as needed. The role includes building out our preventive maintenance program from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Tool Room (primary)

• Repair, rebuild, and modify stamping dies, tube bender tooling, and end forming tooling, sharpen punches, regrind forms, weld up wear, replace components
• Build and modify fixtures and gauges to support production
• Operate manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, and other toolroom equipment
• Drive tooling improvement projects; coordinate with engineering and quality on design changes and root cause investigations

Production Setup

• Perform die changes, tooling swaps, and bend program changeovers per the production schedule
• Set machine parameters (tonnage, stroke, feed, bend angles, end form dimensions) to print specifications
• Run first-piece inspections with quality before releasing jobs; adjust setups to hold tolerance and document parameters for repeatability

Maintenance

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical failures on production equipment
• Build and own the PM schedule for tooling and equipment, intervals, task lists, spare parts, and work history (paper/spreadsheet, with potential to evolve into a CMMS)

Production (as needed)

• Operate stamping, tube bending, or end forming equipment during coverage gaps; maintain a clean 5S work area and follow all OSHA / lockout-tagout procedures

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical/trade school certificate in tool & die or machining preferred
• Tool & die making or toolroom experience in metal forming, stamping, or fabrication
• Proficient with manual machining (Bridgeport-style mills, lathes, surface grinders) and die/tooling repair or rebuild work
• Welding (MIG/TIG) and working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Proficient with blueprints and precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators)
• Self-directed and able to establish toolroom priorities and structure where none exists; able to lift 50 lbs and stand for full shift

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of tool & die or toolroom experience
• Stamping die design experience
• EDM experience (sinker or wire)
• Experience developing PM programs from scratch; basic electrical troubleshooting; forklift / overhead crane certification

Compensation & Benefits

• $27-$37 per hour, depending on experience
• Full-time hourly position; Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM
• 2 weeks paid vacation (increases to 3 weeks after 5 years of service)
• 1 week paid sick time
